An overview of Sports injuries


Injuries are a part and parcel of a sportsman’s life. Injuries mainly take place, due to over stress on a particular body part or acute trauma.  Injuries due to overstress can occur in any sport involving physical activity like soccer, tennis, hockey, rugby etc.  The injuries due to acute trauma occur mainly in contact sports like rugby, football and ice hockey. A condition in which the outer elbow becomes sore and tender is known as tennis elbow. This disease is not just confined to tennis players. Other players who have put additional strain on their elbows can also suffer from this ailment. Runner’s knee is caused by the swelling of the cartilage. A sportsman suffering from this ailment experiences extreme pain while moving.
In order to take proper care of the injured players, major sports teams around the world hire physicians. Sports injury rehabilitation programs are aimed at negating the inflammatory phase of an injury.

The main sports injury prevention measure recommended by experts is a warm up program. Rotating players in order to prevent burnout in between a busy season is also considered a good option. Judging players by their efforts rather by their winning a game or a competition will not put lesser pressure on players.   The usage of compression sportswear that will ensure less stress is put on the muscles is another good idea.
